LUNCH & LEARN:  Fighting Obesity In The Work Place

OBESITY is a growing problem in our country, impacting individuals and families in very negative ways.  OBESITY in the workplace is a new phenomenon with the potential to take some companies by surprise over the next few years.  As we continue to shift from a manufacturing economy to a service economy, work environments are becoming more sedentary every year.

The impact of this health risk may be a major factor in future medical plan design and cost.  It is an ever-increasing expenditure affecting the bottom line of companies everywhere.

A primary benefit of reducing obesity in the workplace is having happier and healthier employees. Happier and healthier employees are more productive and take less time off work due to illnesses related to being overweight.

The most startling detail about OBESITY in the workplace is its' rapid and dramatic increase over the last few years.  The number of people who are considered obese or morbidly obese has raised drastically.  The number of Americans considered obese by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in 2001 was 44 million people - or approximately one in every five. This is a 74% increase since 1991.

Employers can play a major part in providing a healthy work environment, thus offsetting or reducing the potential financial burden this risk can present to the workplace.

It is the individuals responsibility to actively address and fight obesity through lifestyle choices; however, it is also in the best interest of employers to contribute to the solution.

360 Plus Fitness Consult LLC can help employers do just that!  With our Lunch and Learn Sessions on healthy lifestyle topics, employees can grasp various healthy lifestyle concepts all while enjoying a nutritious lunch.   The topics are based on the MAC acronym (Moderation, Acquired taste/behavior and Consistency).
